Have you ever seen the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio? It was filmed on the incredibility beautiful island of Koh Phi Phi. This small piece of tropical paradise is located in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand. I adventured here 10 years ago and had to come back. Phi Phi has changed a lot, mostly under the wrath of Mother Nature. The tsunami that hit South Asia six years ago left its damaging mark on this lush green isle. Ten years later, it’s almost a completely different place.
I found this unbelievable home video captured by a Swedish tourist when the tsunami literally washed Phi Phi away in 2004. The audio is in Swedish, but the intense pictures tells the heartbreaking story. Locals say more than 1000 people were killed on this very small island.
